I have always believed that holism is not restricted by a person’s size, gender, pathologies or circumstance. Everyone deserves an opportunity to explore their highest potential and massage therapy and yoga are two ways in which I can help in that process. I highly enjoy the puzzle the human body presents and I like working within the caring nature of these two skills to assist in the growth, relaxation and nurturing of every body.
I graduated as a massage therapist in 1997 in Worcester, Massachusetts. I have worked extensively with vulnerable clients in the mental health system as well as with clients with spinal cord injuries. Early in my career I worked in a clinic that specialized in treating pregnant women who were in car accidents and couldn’t take pain medications. I would continue to be present in their pain management until the time of birth. I have also worked with Olympic athletes and hospice patients.
In 1998 I did a one year yoga teacher training course. In 2000 I went to India for 3 months where I did a more in depth study of yogic philosophy. I have been practicing yoga since I was a child and studied in a traditional manner where the asanas, or postures, were a small percentage of the overall practice. Yoga, or yoke in Sanskrit, means union. Union with your self, union with a higher power - they are the same. I teach in the same style I was taught, spending time with breath, postures, sound, silence and ancient wisdom in each of my classes. The yoga that I enjoy teaching is specifically geared towards people who have physical limitations that don’t suit the plethora of classes available in the UK at the moment.
I have practiced massage and taught yoga for over a decade in Canada, the USA, Thailand and now in the UK. I have worked with a diverse client base and am excited to be bringing my experience to the Goudhurst area.
